Fact: There’s no better time to buy beauty products than during a cold, wet and never-ending January, and that’s not only because of the sales.

Winter always brings with it an enormous haul of holiday beauty launches, be it the aspirational resort collections or as COVID-19 precautions continue, products that are the next best thing to a salon appointment.

As a beauty addict, I have a few brands on my radar that are doing things differently and doing this well.

Current Body

Current Body is the first company to recognise one of the fastest growing trends in the world of beauty. With modern innovation allowing manufacturers to create devices that mimic the on-site devices used by professionals in salons, spas, and clinics, Current Body has brought together a complete selection available for home use technology.

Current Body have a total of 9 localised sites that ship beauty devices around the world. At the moment, these include Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, along with the USA and Australia.

Their exponential growth is set to continue with a number of new site launches, along with a joint venture with Thakral Corporation which will see expansion into China.

As an ex- @Space NK employee, I love the site’s editorial pages that have interesting articles and clear advice on how to use some of the more hi-tech products.

Firmly on my wish list is the LED Light Therapy mask.

The Fragrance Shop

As a fellow Mancunian, The Fragrance Shop has always been my go-to for perfume purchases.

Many of us may have stopped spritzing our scents during the disaster called 2020 but one glance at any social media platform and you will be bombarded with advice on self-care.

One easy way to find a little bit of happiness everyday is by discovering our go-to fragrance that puts us in a good mood, helps us feel more put together and creates the illusion of an ‘activewear influencer’ rather than a joggers and jumper slob.

The Fragrance Shop have launched Scentaddict. This is a perfume subscription service that delivers 30 days worth of fragrance to your door for just £12 a month. You’ll have access to a library of over 500 different scents to pick and choose from every month, and a travel sized atomiser that easily refills so you can swap out your fragrance on the fly.

A new year’s resolution I am more than happy to stick to is to curate my own collection and find my signature scent.

Skin Academy

Relatively new in the industry is another North West neighbour, Skin Academy. They launched in 2017 and in just eleven months won major national retailer listings.

Based in Bury, Greater Manchester, Skin Academy currently employs 20 people and specialises in a range of skincare products, including face masks, moisturisers and gel eye patches.

Products are sold in a range of retailers around the country like Bodycare, Beauty Outlet, B&M Retail, BOYES, Semi Chem and are available to purchase online at popular e-commerce sites Boohoo.com and PrettyLittleThing.

Direct from the site my hero product is the Skin Academy Indulge Regenerating Facial Oil. Dark nights, computer screens, and a midweek glass of red leave my skin dehydrated and this oil is the perfect way to moisturise and nourish the skin, without leaving a greasy residue.

Enriched with Rosehip and Sweet Almond Oils, this facial oil helps retain moisture and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Beauty Bay

Beauty Bay have got their content spot on for trends and ease of purchase.

Just like fast fashion enablers have their site sections for ‘Jeans and a nice top’ and even the even more apt ‘joggers and a nice top’, Beauty Bay have highlighted the most popular trends- ‘vegan makeup’, ‘no make-up-make-up’, and ‘PRO MUA’. There is inspiration for all of us, all of our moods and all of our levels of effort and skill.

My ego was put into check when I discovered a new trend that had completely passed me by!

Having spent nearly a whole evening on the site I am now expertly qualified in how to ‘soap’ brows properly. Designed to be left on skin (rather than washed off), it’s free from fragrance, colour, and foaming agents, so won’t lather up, cause irritation, or leave unwanted residue in your brows. The product and method used builds on the fast-paced changing brow seasons and has helped me get results with minimal effort. Intrigued check out their site for more!
